Building a kayak using either the strip-built or stitch-and-glue method is within the means of most people who want to do it. neither method is particularly difficult for anyone who is willing to take the time required. many first time builders who have never done anything remotely like a constructing a boat have produced beautiful boats they are justifiably proud of.. Please explain the pro's and con's of stitch and glue vs. cedar strip construction. it is clear that s & g is quicker and probably makes a lighter boat, but beyond that? is one stronger, easier to repair. does one allow you to build a better designed boat? what are the maintenende and care issues with a wood kayak? although i have been a professional furniture maker, i have zero boat building. Strip or stitch and glue. advice. other-gear. system. october 15, 2019, 5:20pm #1. according to nick schade, author of “the strip built kayak” the strip boat will flex more than a comparable plywood or fiberglass boat such as when hitting a rock, although i don’t know of anyone wanting to use their boat to test that theory!.
